Attorney General Scott Pruitt issued a warning Monday for Oklahomans affected by the recent wildfires. “We know from past experience that major property damage after a disaster attracts criminals looking for ways to take advantage,” Pruitt said. “We want everyone to be aware of the possible schemes and scams.” The Attorney General’s Public Protection Unit monitors and investigates home repair and charity fraud after natural disasters. They pay special attention to repair workers who travel from city to city following disasters.

Oklahoma AG files $18.6-million mortgage settlement

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office has set a Sept. 13 deadline for residents to apply for compensation under the state's $18.6 million settlement with five mortgage lenders.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt filed the settlement Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court. Oklahoma was the only state that didn't join a national settlement with the lenders. Pruitt says he reached a separate agreement and that affected Oklahomans would likely receive more money — and faster.
