Parking Rates to Be Studied

Tulsa, OK – A proposal for increasing parking meter fees and operation hours will be studied more. Downtown businessman Michael Sagar was among those asked the city council for more revenue.

City Councilor Maria Barnes---who represents downtown--- thinks it is a dangerous idea in the middle of downtown revitalization. The proposal would raise parking rates to $1 per-hour and increase enforcement till 8P.M. Currently enforcement ends at 5P.M.

The council will consider the plan in 60-days after getting more downtown input.

Public Safety Tax Debated

Tulsa, OK – A proposal for a one-cent public safety tax receives a chilly reception from members of the city council. The proposal from councilor Jack Henderson will go to a council vote Thursday night.Henderson's proposal would sent the measure to a vote of the people.

Councilor John Eagleton says the proposal would only make Tulsa's problems worse and force people to shop in the suburbs where, in some cases, sales taxes are less. Other councilors voiced their displeasure with the idea during this morning's committee meeting.

Coweta, OK – Okla. park signs lease with Wagoner County

COWETA, Okla. (AP) An amusement park that lost its lease with Tulsa County has signed an agreement with a neighboring county.

Bell's Amusement Park official Robby Bell signed a 50-year lease with Wagoner County on Monday during the county commissioner meeting.

The deal hinges on whether Wagoner County voters approve a quarter-cent sales tax increase to pay for acquiring the property where the park, an expo center and other attractions would be located.

River Accident

Tulsa, OK –
A man is pulled from the Arkansas River in full cardiac arrest. The Tulsa fire department says the man's kayak went over the low water dam this morning near 31st and Riverside Drive. The man was tossed from the kayak and was found floating in the fast moving water about a mile away.

Busy Agenda Ahead of Council

Tulsa, OK –
Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson will again tomorrow attempt to get other councilors to buy onto his idea. He wants a one-cent city sales tax hike earmarked for public safety. In the past, the council has rejected the idea.

Parking meters will get the attention of the city council as well. The council will consider setting a uniform parking rate and hours for the city's meters. Right now, parking meters are not enforced after five-p-m .. that would be extended to eight under tomorrow's proposal.
