Gubernatorial Dig?

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Republican gubernatorial candidate Mary Fallin has said she believes her experience as a wife and mother of six children is a key distinction between her and her opponent. Some thought the comment was an inappropriate dig at Democrat Jari Askins, who's single. Askins said she always assumed she would marry, but believes she's still best qualified even though she didn't.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Virginia attorney general who filed one of two lawsuits against the federal government challenging the health care law is campaigning in Oklahoma. Virginia's Kenneth Cuccinelli is visiting the state today to support fellow Republican Scott Pruitt who is running for attorney general against Democrat Jim Priest.

DOC Asks for $35 million

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The board that oversees the Oklahoma prison system says it needs nearly $35 million more to operate the state's penitentiaries. The state Board of Corrections voted Friday to ask the Legislature for the additional money as a budget supplement.

Triple Murder Update

Tulsa, OK – Police: 1 victim in triple slaying had a drug debt


An affidavit filed by police says one of the victims in a triple homicide in Tulsa this month might have owed $20,000 ro a drug supplier.

23-year-old Joey Mike, one of the victms was connected with an unidentified drug dealer and possibly owed him the money.

Round Barn Billboard

Arcadia, OK – Sign attached to billboard near Round Barn

ARCADIA, Okla. (AP) The owner of a billboard being erected next to a Route 66 landmark in Arcadia is halting construction after a sign attached to the billboard upset residents.

The billboard began going up earlier this month next to the Round Barn and critics say it obstructs the view of the highway landmark.

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's unemployment rate dipped to 6.9 percent in September, one-tenth of a percentage point lower than in August. State officials report that 121,810 people were unemployed last month, less than the 122,800 who were without jobs the previous month.

Muskogee Police Shooting Update

Muskogee, OK – Handling of evidence after police shooting probed

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the handling of evidence following a deadly police shooting in Muskogee.

Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore says he asked the OSBI to investigate. Moore declined further comment.

Police chief Rex Eskridge told the Muskogee Phoenix that the investigation includes how evidence was handled and police allowing a city attorney to look at a piece of evidence.
