New "Top Score" and "New Classical Tracks" on Classical 88.7

Classical 88.7-1 has integrated two new features within its daily Masterworks programming: Top Score and New Classical Tracks.

Top Score is a five-minute exploration of video game soundtracks with Emily Reese. Meet the composers who create the music that accompanies popular video games, many of which have been inspired by classical music. Hear this special program on Sunday mornings at 11:01 am.

San Francisco Symphony In Concert On Classical 88.7

Last March, when the San Francisco Symphony was slated for an East Coast tour, including a stop at Carnegie Hall, the musicians went on strike. Fortunately, the labor dispute was settled in 18 days — a blink of an eye compared to the recent drawn-out disruptions in Minnesota and Detroit.

Independence Day on Classical 88.7-1

Celebrate the 4th in a Classical way!

On the Fourth of July, Classical 88.7-1 marks our nation's independence with a day packed with the musical sounds of America, ranging from the Wild West to the big city, to a parade down Main Street; and sample new releases, recently unearthed gems, and lots of familiar favorites.

Composers like Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, John Williams and John Phillip Sousa will be featured.

Roll Credits returns to Classical 88.7-1

Roll Credits returns for a summer cinema experience on Classical 88.7-1 - every Monday from July 2nd through August 27th at 7:00 pm.

Lynne Warfel and Bill Morelock will converse about music from the movies - drawing connections between the classical and cinematic worlds - and share popular film scores, old and new. From Erich Korngold, Aaron Copland and Harold Arlen, on up to John Williams, Howard Shore and James Horner, the mix is appealing, surprising, and full of moments that connect you with familiar music.

Easter Sunday Celebration on Classical 88.7-1

At 8 p.m. on Easter Sunday, join Classical 88.7-1 hosts Bob Christiansen and Valerie Kahler for an hour as they share some of their favorite Easter memories and music featuring Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overture; Haydn's "Alleluia" Symphony, No. 30; and from Handel's Easter Oratorio, 'Messiah,' "I know That My Redeemer Liveth" and "Hallelujah Chorus."
