Writer Jonathan Safran Foer on "Eating Animals"

Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of StudioTulsa, we offer an interesting conversation with the writer Jonathan Safran Foer, whose bestselling non-fiction study, "Eating Animals," has just appeared in paperback. Like many others, as he tells us on today's show, Foer spent his youth oscillating between omnivore and vegetarian. But then, faced with the notion of being a father (which would entail, of course, continually feeding, or helping to feed, a child), Foer began to think about what we eat --- and why we eat it --- in new ways. Or at least, in ways that were new to him. "Eating Animals" is the result --- a well-written mixture of philosophy, literature, science, and memoir that focuses on the stories we tell ourselves to justify our eating habits. Yet "Eating Animals" is not, as the author points out more than once, an argument for vegetarianism --- it is, rather, a serious argument **against** factory-farming techniques. (For more information, be sure to check out http://www.eatinganimals.com/site/book/.) Foer will be speaking and signing copies of his book tonight (Thursday the 2nd) at 7pm at Congregation B'nai Emunah in Tulsa (near 17th and Peoria). For further details, visit booksmarttulsa.com.
