Wind Brings Wildfires

By Associated Press

Bartlesville, OK – Wind worsens grass fires in Washington Co., Okla.

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) Washington County authorities say wind is making the task of firefighters harder as they battle grass fires in the northern parts of the county, near the Kansas state line.

Tulsa television station KOTV said the largest of the blazes being fought Saturday covered at least 500 acres. One of the fires had apparently endangered a truck stop in the community of Copan.

Officials said wind gusts up to 30 mph, combined with dry air, were making fire-fighting efforts more difficult.
