Undated – Fire destroys mobile home, house in central Okla.

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) Authorities say a grass fire has destroyed a house and a mobile home near Shawnee, but no injuries were reported.

Pottawatomie County Emergency Management Director Don Lynch says firefighters were called about 3 p.m. yesterday to a wooded area in Bethel Acres. Lynch says an Oklahoma National Guard helicopter with a 600-gallon bucket dropped water on the flames, helping to bring the fire under control by last night.

He says firefighters continued to monitor the area for hotspots.

The state remains susceptible to wildfires because of persistent dry, windy and warm conditions. At least 34 homes were destroyed in wildfires last week.

In Tulsa, firefighters doused a blaze that burned about seven acres near U.S. 169.

No injuries or property damage were reported with that fire.
