File photo

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — One person has been killed after an experimental airplane crashed near an airport near Oklahoma City. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says the Skeeter 1M single-engine plane was on approach to Clarence Page Airport when the aircraft went down about 8:40 a.m. Saturday. Herwig says the pilot was the only person on board, and there were no reports of injuries to anyone on the ground. Oklahoma City Police Lieutenant Jason Samuel says significant damage was done to the aircraft. According to FAA records, the plane is registered to a Moore resident. The name of the pilot wasn't immediately released. Herwig says FAA investigators have responded to the crash site and are investigating what happened.
