The Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College continues its search for a new artistic director and conductor, and the field has narrowed to three young finalists, each of whom is a promising talent amid the next generation of American conductors. As the Symphony begins its new season of concerts, each of these finalists will be given the chance to wave the baton, as it were, during an actual concert. Actually, during two different concerts -- throughout this season, each finalist will be the guest conductor of the orchestra for an evening of pops as well as a classical concert; these special shows are of course intended to highlight the programming and performing skills of the three candidates in question. Our guest on ST is the first of these candidates, Michael Rossi, who will lead the Signature Symphony in an all-Gershwin concert on Friday and Saturday nights (the 12th and 13th) at the TCC's VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education, located at 10300 E. 81st Street. Both concerts begin at 7:30pm; call 918-595-7777 for tickets or more info. (You can learn more about the ongoing Signature Symphony artistic director and conductor search at this link, and more about Rossi himself here.)
