Water Boil Order Issued for Delaware County System

JAY, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is advising some users of the Red Dirt Public Water Supply in Delaware County to boil water before consuming it.

DEQ said Wednesday the advisory was issued due to the presence of E. coli and is for the Red Dirt Bar only. Users should boil water for at least one minute or use bottled water for consumption, food preparation, brushing teeth and washing dishes.

DEQ says federal law requires that consumers be notified when a public water supply exceeds certain maximum contaminant levels and might be harmful to the health of consumers. It says users will be notified when the water is considered safe for human consumption.
