UPDATE: Ten Commandments

Stigler, OK – County commissioners ordered to pay fees to ACLU

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal appeals court says Haskell County commissioners must pay legal fees of the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma in a lawsuit over a Ten Commandments monument.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver says the ACLU should receive attorneys fees, costs and expenses because it won the lawsuit. An ACLU attorney says the amount won't be known for weeks or months.

The court ruled in June that the monument on the Haskell County courthouse lawn in Stigler is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.

An attorney for the commissioners has said the commission will appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
