Unemployment Rate Down in State

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. unemployment rate drops to 5.6 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's unemployment rate declined to 5.6 percent in April, a drop of 0.5 percentage points from March.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says 97,700 people were without work last month, down from 106,010 in March. The April 2010 jobless rate was 7.2 percent.

Commission officials say Oklahoma's seasonally adjusted non-farm employment added 11,600 jobs over the month, compared with growth of 26,400 jobs in April 2010.

Eight of the state's 10 statewide super sectors reported job gains.

Trade, Transportation and Utilities added the most jobs 4,100 from March to April. The Mining and Logging category lost 800 jobs during the period.

The commission also noted that the Manufacturing sector added 8,700 from April 2010 to last month, while the Government category lost 6,200 jobs during that time.
