Tulsa, Oklahoma – Starting tomorrow night --- Saturday the 17th (at 7:30pm, at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center) --- Tulsa Opera will begin a three-performance run of Jules Massenet's "Don Quichotte," a rarely-staged opera that's never before been seen in Tulsa. Massenet's heroic comedy --- a version of "Don Quixote" by Cervantes --- has been known as a showcase for bass singers since its first performance in 1910. On StudioTulsa today, we speak with Michael Ehrman, who's the stage director for this production. As Ehrman tells our host Rich Fisher, Tulsa Opera has created a newly conceived yet minimalist production that might well owe as much to certain classic Broadway musicals as it does to both the style and substance of classical opera.
