TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A judge in Tulsa has agreed to delay the trial of a former Tulsa County sheriff's deputy who's charged with sexually assaulting at least two women while he was on duty.
Gerald Nuckolls was to go on trial Monday on sexual battery and indecent exposure charges, but District Judge William LaFortune agreed Friday to postpone trial until Oct. 12 because of an illness in the defense attorney's family.
Nuckolls resigned from the sheriff's department shortly after his arrest. He's pleaded not guilty and declined to comment on the case Friday.
Defense attorney Terry Funk said after the hearing that there have been attempts to reach a plea deal with prosecutors, but no agreement has been reached. Funk told the judge he expects the case to go to trial.
