Tulsa Homicides in 2013 Surpass 2012 Numbers

File Graphic

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The number of homicides in Tulsa this year has surpassed the total for 2012 with more than three months remaining in the year.

A fatal shooting Friday night put the number of homicides in Oklahoma's second-largest city at 48. Police say there were 46 homicides during all of 2012.

Sergeant Dave Walker told the Tulsa World that there is no obvious reason for the increase. Walker says there have been no major spikes in gang or criminal activity to explain the number of homicides.

The record number of homicides in the city in one year is 71 in 2009.
