Tulsa Area State Representative David Brumbaugh Dead at 56

Eric Proctor

The Oklahoma House speaker's office says state Rep. David Brumbaugh of Broken Arrow, has died. He was 56.

Brumbaugh was a frequent guest on local segments of Morning Edition on KWGS. Brumbaugh, a Republican, often debated issues with Tulsa Democrat Eric Proctor. Despite, their political differences, the two men were close friends.

Proctor issued the following statement: " David was one of the finest and most genuine representatives I had the privilege to serve with over the last eleven years. I am thankful Tara and I had the opportunity to have dinner with David and Mrs. Brumbaugh just a few weeks ago. David has been to my home, held my daughters and had been an amazing friend. David and I did a radio show together for four years. He was one of the classiest men I've ever known. He loved his God, family, state and country. My heart is breaking tonight for his precious family. I have lost a friend and the state of Oklahoma has lost a true statesman."

Brumbaugh's family confirmed he died Saturday evening. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The Republican from Broken Arrow was elected to the House in 2010, and currently served as the chairman of the House Republican Caucus.

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
