The Muscogee-Creek Nation says it will spend nearly $22-million on revamping the Riverwalk Crossing at Jenks. The tribe bought the facility in the spring of 2012 out of foreclosure. The Riverwalk is next to the 96th Street Bridge at the Arkansas River.
The plans, announced today in a news conference, include a high-tech virtual golf experience, a sports bar, party rooms and family oriented games. There will also be corporate office space.
Officials say the project will be unique to the area, with nothing like it within 200-miles. They hope to have the work complete by 2017.
The Riverwalk was once packed with trendy shops and restaurants at its location along the west bank of the Arkansas River when it opened in 2005. But the center was in financial turmoil when the tribe bought the property in 2012 at a foreclosure auction. Since then, the tribe has looked for ways to revitalize it.
