Tribal Rehearing?

By Associated Press

Tulsa, OK – Osage chief confident case will be reheard

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The chief of the Osage Nation says he's confident a federal appeals court will rehear a case that could affect three of the tribe's casinos.

The court recently upheld a ruling that Osage County is not a tribal reservation. The ruling leaves casinos in Tulsa, Skiatook and Ponca City not on land that is in trust or under federal restricted status as is required.

Principal Chief Jim Gray said Monday he's extremely confident the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals will rehear the case. Gray also says the tribe has begun the process of putting the land into trust to ensure the security of the casinos.

Gray says fears of by some tribal leaders that the case would not be reheard amounted to "political grandstanding" tied to tribal elections.
