OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma City Zoo officials say a Sumatran tiger escaped its pen, but remained in an enclosed area before being tranquilized with no injuries and no danger to the public.
The zoo said in a news release that the 4-year-old female tiger was spotted shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday in an enclosed space between two cat exhibits. A ``Code Red'' alert was issued, moving the public and staff out of the exhibits.
Zoo spokeswoman Tara Henson says the tiger was shot with a tranquilizer dart. The zoo says the animal was taken to a holding building and was recovering while being monitored by veterinarians.
Henson said the tiger did not enter any area accessible by the public.
The zoo said it wasn't immediately known how the tiger got into the area.
