Tag Agents Not Following Law

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Some agents not asking for donation as required

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Records show some Oklahoma tag agents are not following a state law that requires them to ask customers to consider donating $1 for organ donation education.

The law says tag agents and their employees must ask for the donation from anyone getting a driver's license, identification card, title or tag. Some agents have collected nothing in the past year.

Oklahoma City tag agent Jeff Segell says he doesn't think other agents are intentionally ignoring the law. But he says it appears obvious some don't take the law seriously.

Segell and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Kevin Ward have sent a letter to all 305 tag agents in the state urging them to comply with the law.

The money goes into a revolving fund and is distributed for education about organ, eye and tissue donation.
