Tulsa, OK – Strong storms in NE Okla., thousands without power
TULSA, Okla. (AP) Strong thunderstorms in Oklahoma caused damage and power outages but no apparent injuries in the Tulsa area.
City spokesman Bob Bledsoe says the damage is widespread from the storm that moved into the city about 5 a.m Thursday. He says the heaviest damage is just south of downtown Tulsa where downed trees are blocking some streets.
National Weather Service meteorologist Karen Hatfield in Tulsa says radar showed wind speeds near 100 miles per hour in Tulsa and gusts of 80 miles per hour in nearby Bristow.
Public Service Company of Oklahoma reported nearly 38,000 customers without power in the region.
The weather service says no tornadoes were reported. Apparent straight line winds caused lesser damage in Creek, Rogers, Wagoner and Craig counties.
