State Transportation Commission Green Lights Work on Highway 169

More road work is coming to Tulsa.

Eight deficient bridges will be replaced and a mile of the road widened along Highway 169, starting at 56th Street North. Kenna Carmon with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation said work will likely begin late summer, but drivers should start planning now.

"They might identify some alternate routes or just plan around it," Carmon said. "You might have to plan not only extra travel time, but maybe adjusting your morning or evening drive to try to get around this construction."

The projects are north of 56th Street North, and the work will take about a year and a half.

The state transportation commission selected Becco Contractors for the work, approving a contract of up to $45 million. That includes incentives for finishing ahead of schedule.

"It does also have a disincentive tied to it, so if the work isn't performed as bid, then there could be a disincentive applied as well," Carmon said.

This is the second major highway project in Tulsa approved by the commission this year. The first was extensive resurfacing of I-244 from the Inner Dispersal Loop to about Memorial Drive.
