Snakes seek Water

Oklahoma City, OK – Snake sightings rise as Oklahoma drought lingers

(Information in the following story is from: KFOR-TV, http://www.kfor.com)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma wildlife officials say sightings of snakes are on the rise as the drought continues.

Oklahoma City television station KFOR reports that snakes that are seeking water are more likely to turn up around residential gardens.

Rachel Bradley with the Oklahoma Wildlife Department says homeowners should make sure their lawns are cut low to reduce cover for the reptiles. She says it's also important to make sure that the areas around homes are free of mice.

Bradley also suggests getting rid of brush piles.

Those things will help, but snakes gravitate toward food, and a well-watered garden will at least have its share of insects. Bradley says being able to identify a snake is another way to keep safe.
