Tulsa cooling stations opened Tuesday to help people deal with the oppressive heat this week.
"Whoever is warm or they need a cooling place to get out of the heat, anyone's invited to take advantage of one of the cooling stations," said Jamie Ott with Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency.
Some cooling stations, including the Salvation Army Center of Hope and John 3:16 mission, are open 24 hours during heat waves.
The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, Tulsa County Social Services and senior nutrition sites are also available. Opening cooling stations is typically preplanned.
"We start looking at this ahead of time ... with notices and the warning information coming out from the National Weather Service," Ott said.
You can find your nearest cooling station by calling 211. The Tulsa Health Department also recommends visiting libraries or malls if you need air conditioning.
