School Year Begins in Fire Ravaged Mannford

File photo

This is the first day for teachers in the Mannford School District to report for duty. It was just over a week ago that a huge wildfire swept through the community. It is estimated that 70-students in the district lost their homes in the fires along with five staff members.

It is hoped that school will bring some normalcy to the lives of the students.  Many of the kids lost everything to the wild-fire including their back to school supplies. "The community outreach has been astonishing" said Mannford School Superintendent Dr. Steve Waldvogel. They have collected so many supplies that they are now sharing with the Drumright and Olive Districts, which were also hit hard by the same fire.
