The Salvation Army Gets Another Krugerrand

KWGS News

It is probably Tulsa’s best kept secret.

Each year, someone drops a gold South African Krugerrand in a Tulsa Salvation Army kettle. No one knows the donor.  It has happened again this year.

This week, it was found wrapped in a two-dollar bill. Salvation Army Major James Taylor was at Tulsa Gold and Silver to redeem the coin. Manager Mike Anderson tells him the worth:

Anderson: :This little guy here, the one once Krugerrand... is worth $1,260 today." Taylor: "Why thank you." Anderson: So with the two dollar bill that is $1,262." Taylor: "Well all right." (laughter)

The coin was placed in a kettle outside of the Dillard’s Store at Promenade Mall. The coins have been found almost every year for nearly the past two decades.
