McAlester, Okla. – McALESTER, Okla. (AP) An inmate who escaped from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester has been arrested in Tulsa.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Dwayne Smith Jr. was captured without incident at a Tulsa motel about 7:40 p.m. Monday.

Prison Deputy Warden Rick Moham said Smith was discovered missing during an inmate count around 6:30 a.m. Monday. Moham says officials believe Smith went around the back of one of the housing units and apparently met someone who picked him up on the road.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections officials allege that Margaret Miller and Diane Bowers picked up Smith and took him to the hotel.

Both women were arrested on complaints of harboring a fugitive and were being held at the Tulsa Jail on $10,000 bond each. Neither had been formally charged.
