Redistricting Challenge Tossed

State Senator Jim Wilson

State Senator Jim Wilson

Oklahoma City, Ok – The Oklahoma Supreme court tossed out a lawsuit Thursday that alleged the new state Senate redistricting map is unconstitutional.
In a 9-0 ruling, the state's high court mandated that the new Senate districts comply with the population requirements outlined in the state constitution. The court went on to say that claims of political gerrymandering need to be determined at the district court level.
State Sen. Jim Wilson, who filed the lawsuit, claimed that the new odd-shaped district lines split communities of interest and were gerrymandered by Republicans. Wilson, a Democrat, says he is disappointed in the ruling and plans to pursue the case in district court.
