Public Forum Will Cover East Tulsa Outlet Mall

Horizon Group Properties

Tulsans can find out more tomorrow evening about a proposed east Tulsa outlet mall.

There will be a public forum at 7 p.m. at East Central High School, 12150 E 11th St., to discuss the Outlet Shoppes at Tulsa development.

"This one was the first one proposed in Tulsa, after which Simon came in behind discussing their mall, and then the Cherokee casino came in discussing theirs," said City Councilor Connie Dodson, who represents the district the mall is slated for. "Both of those seem to be kind of pulling back a little bit, but we're still moving forward and have been."

Dodson and representatives from the developers and the city development office will answer questions and present more details about the project. She said it will help the city's sales tax base.

"It also does provide a very much-needed area for shopping for the east Tulsa residents," Dodson said. "Currently, our closest areas to shop are Catoosa, Owasso and Broken Arrow — all of which are outside the Tulsa tax base."

Dodson said east Tulsans are without a store in the department store category now that Walmart has closed.

The Outlet Shoppes at Tulsa is one of three malls in the city proposed last year. The others would be near Turkey Mountain and the Hard Rock Casino.
