Tulsa, OK – Prosecutors rest their case in Okla. lawmen's trial
TULSA, Okla. (AP) Federal prosecutors have rested their case in the corruption trial of two Tulsa police officers and a retired officer.
Officers Nick DeBruin and Bruce Bonham and retired Cpl. Harold Wells are accused of conspiracy, drug possession with intent to distribute and planting drugs on people. The men have pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors on Tuesday played taped conversations between former detective John Gray and Wells. The conversations centered around an arrangement in which Wells would allow a drug dealer to come to Tulsa to sell drugs if Wells could arrest a customer.
Gray has pleaded guilty to theft of government funds during an FBI sting.
Defense attorneys asked U.S. District Judge Bruce Black to dismiss the charges, but Black refused.
An FBI informant was the first defense witness called to testify.
