Performance Oklahoma - The New Orford String Quartet presented by Chamber Music in Oklahoma!

Celebrating 56 years of bringing nationally and internationally recognized chamber music ensembles to Oklahoma City, Chamber Music in Oklahomais a non-profit civic organization begun in 1960.  Made up of volunteers and sustained by the support of its members, audiences and a number of community entities the series offers a five-concert season held on Sundays at 4:00pm from October through April at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. 

Canada’s New Orford String Quartet showcased its “ravishingly beautiful tone” in its first appearance in Oklahoma City, presented by Chamber Music in Oklahoma.  The widely heralded Quartet, which is comprised of principal players from the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestras is admired for its remarkably cohesive sound and rapport while achieving enormous success with critical acclaim, two Opus Awards for Concert of the Year and a JUNO nomination for its debut album of the final quartets of Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven in 2012.  Appearing on Sunday, April 12th at Christ the King Catholic Church, the ensemble offered the Oklahoma premier of "Journal:  String Quartet No. 2 by Canadian composer Tim Brady - the work written for them in 2014.  Also featured on the program, the Quartet in G Major, Op 76, No. 1 by Franz Joseph Haydn and the Quartet in c minor, Op 51, No. 1 by Johannes Brahms.   

Following the program featuring the New Orford String Quartet, listeners will enjoy a performance of the Piano Quartet in a minor, Op 67 by Joaquin Turina presented by the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble on Tuesday, April 21st.
