Oklahoma City, OK – Gov. rejects just over half parole recommendations

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has rejected just more than one-half of the 541 parole recommendations sent her by the state Pardon and Parole Board.

The numbers collected by the Tulsa World show that since May Fallin has signed off on 265 recommendations that a convict be paroled while rejecting 276 such recommendations.

Fallin took office in January and has since appointed three of the five members of the board.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz said Fallin considers each case and the circumstances surrounding it on an individual basis. He declined to elaborate on the criteria the governor uses when making a decision.
