Online Voter Registration System Could See Delays

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma's online voter registration law is due to become effective Nov. 1, but apparently more work needs to be finished on the system.

The Tulsa World reports that officials concede it comes as a disappointing surprise to those planning registration drives incorporating online technology, but lawmakers have said it would be a process that would take time.

Informal meetings between Election Board, Department of Public Safety and other officials have been going on for some time. After November 1st, activity will pick up as the formal process of requesting information, proposals and bids gets started.

A spokesman says long that will take and how much it will cost is unclear, but federal Help America Vote funds are expected to cover most or all of the expense.
