OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A makeover for one of Oklahoma's worst interstate traffic bottlenecks is finally ready to get under way.
The Oklahoma Transportation Commission is set Monday to award a contract for the first phase of the long-awaited overhaul of the intersection of Interstates 35 and 240 in south Oklahoma City.
The state plans to reconstruct the interchange over at least six years with a multi-level interchange that has new flyover ramps and longer merging distances.
The director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation also plans to brief the commission on the governor's recent budget proposal and challenges with state funding. Transportation received a 6 percent cut in the current year's budget, and Gov. Mary Fallin proposed another 6 percent cut for the agency next year.
