Oklahoma Unemployment Rate Unchanged in August

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma unemployment rate was unchanged in August at 5.3 percent.

The figures released Friday by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission show that while the number of Oklahomans with a job decreased by a seasonally adjusted 3,740, the number seeking a job fell by 3,690.

The figures show the state's labor force numbered 1.8 million in August with 95,710 unemployed.

The leisure and hospitality industry showed the largest monthly job gain with 1,300 jobs added during August while government added 700 jobs; the trade, transportation and utilities industry added 500 jobs; and the financial industries sector added 400.

The construction industry lost 3,000 jobs during the month.

The national unemployment rate fell slightly from 7.4 to 7.3 percent from July to August.
