Oklahoma Student Says Expulsion Was for Gay Marriage

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma City woman says she was expelled from a suburban college because she married her same-sex partner.

Christian Minard says she married in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 17 and posted the wedding license on Facebook. She says when she returned home last week from her honeymoon she had a letter from Southwestern Christian University telling her she would not be allowed to return for her final semester.

University Provost Connie Sjoberg said Minard had been a student at the school in Bethany but no longer was. She said federal privacy laws kept her from providing details.

Minard says she feels she was singled out for violating a lifestyles covenant that prohibits "homosexual behavior" and says other students have violated the covenant.
