Oklahoma House: No Sale

Oklahoma City, OK – Bill to ban women selling eggs passes state House

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma House has passed a bill that would ban women from selling their eggs.

The bill passed the House by an 85-8 vote and now heads to the Senate. Its author, Rep. Rebecca Hamilton, D-Oklahoma City, says the measure is necessary because women are being injured by the procedure used to obtain the eggs.

She says low-income women and college students are particularly vulnerable to enticements to undergo the procedure.

Under the bill, women would be able to donate eggs but would not be able to sell them. The bill wouldn't punish the woman who sells her eggs but would result in the revocation of a doctor's license.

Doctors at two Oklahoma City fertility clinics say the measure would damage their operations.
