OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City police say a 60-year-old man drowned while trying to rescue a relative who was stranded by floodwaters.
Police say the man was swept into a drainage canal and drowned early Friday in northwest Oklahoma City. Police say the relative, who was stranded in a car, escaped without injury.
Authorities say the man's body was found several blocks away early Friday.
Parts of central Oklahoma were soaked overnight by downpours, and the National Weather Service says more thunderstorms are predicted through Friday morning.
No flash flood watches or warnings are currently in place for the Oklahoma City area, but forecasters say minor flooding is possible along the Cimarron River and Illinois River in northern Oklahoma.
