Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's StudioTulsa, we're discussing a great exhibit at the Philbrook Museum of Art, "Rauschenberg at Gemini," which will be on view through September 11th of this year. Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008) was an influential American artist who achieved fame in the Fifties and Sixties as Abstract Expressionism began to give way to Pop Art and other styles. Rauschenberg first became well-known for his "Combines," in which various non-standard or unorthodox materials and objects were combined in new and exciting ways. A bit later, starting in 1967, Rauschenberg began to create innovative assemblages at Gemini, G.E.L. (a multiples workshop located in West Hollywood, California). The artist would continue to fashion outstanding works at this facility for the following 30+ years. Our guest on StudioTulsa today is the Los Angeles-based Jay Belloli, the curator of "Rauschenberg at Gemini."
