Now at Philbrook -- "The Figure Examined: Masterworks from the Kasser Mochary Art Foundation"

Aired on Monday, June 1st.

On this edition of ST, we present a discussion about a great new show at the Philbrook Museum of Art here in Tulsa. "The Figure Examined: Masterworks from the Kasser Mochary Art Foundation" will on view through September 13th. Sarah Lees, the Ruth G. Hardman Curator of European Art at Philbrook -- and the curator for this exhibit -- joins us. As is noted of this terrific and terrifically diverse show at the Philbrook website: "This exhibition examines one of the most universal subjects in art, the portrayal of the human figure. 'The Figure Examined' presents a wide range of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by European and American artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including such figures as Auguste Rodin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Jackson Pollock. Juxtaposing these diverse approaches to a common subject reveals the radical stylistic changes that occurred in the modernist period, as well as the broad spectrum of political, philosophical, and aesthetic meanings that can be expressed through the human form. The exhibition consists of over 100 works drawn from the collection assembled by Elizabeth and Alexander Kasser."

Rich Fisher passed through KWGS about thirty years ago, and just never left. Today, he is the general manager of Public Radio Tulsa, and the host of KWGS’s public affairs program, StudioTulsa, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary in August 2012 . As host of StudioTulsa, Rich has conducted roughly four thousand long-form interviews with local, national, and international figures in the arts, humanities, sciences, and government. Very few interviews have gone smoothly. Despite this, he has been honored for his work by several organizations including the Governor's Arts Award for Media by the State Arts Council, a Harwelden Award from the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and was named one of the “99 Great Things About Oklahoma” in 2000 by Oklahoma Today magazine.
