Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this installment of StudioTulsa, we offer a conversation with the influential civil rights activist and lawyer Connie Rice. Last night, she delivered the 10th Annual Buck Colbert Franklin Memorial Civil Rights Lecture at the TU College of Law. In 1999, Rice co-founded the Advancement Project along with other civil rights lawyers from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund who sought new ways by which to secure equity and expand opportunity for low-income people of color. Now located in both Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., the Advancement Project focuses on changing and challenging large-scale public systems in order to assist society's poor and vulnerable people. Over the years, the California office, where Rice is based, has helped secure billions of dollars for better schools and safer communities in Los Angeles and throughout the state. Rice joins guest host John Durkee on today's edition of StudioTulsa for an engaging and wide-ranging discussion.
