Tulsa, Ok – Tulsa World lays off 18, cites soft economy

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Officials at the Tulsa World have reduced the newspaper's staff by 18 positions, or 3 percent.

Publisher Robert E. Lorton III said Tuesday softness in the local and national economies led to the decision to lay off employees. Lorton says readers and subscribers won't notice any change in the amount of content the newspaper provides.

Executive Editor Joe Worley the newsroom is restructuring to make use of staff in a more efficient manner.

The newspaper laid off 28 employees in January 2009.
