A Newly Formed Collective Seeks to Change the Structure of Our City's Government

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Last week, a nonprofit group called Save Our Tulsa filed petitions with the City Clerk's Office in a three-pronged effort to change the City of Tulsa's government. Our guest on StudioTulsa today is retired businessman John Brock, who leads this group (which is comprised of several prominent citizens from both major political parties, including two former mayors and a number of successful businesspeople). As Brock explains, Save Our Tulsa is proposing that three different initiatives be put before the voters: the first would add the mayor and three city-wide members to the City Council, the second would make all municipal elections nonpartisan, and the third would alter the City's election dates and council terms. Save Our Tulsa now has about three months in which to collect enough signatures to get these petitions on a ballot --- they'll need to collect approximately 17,000 signatures for each of the three petitions. Also on our show today, commentator Mark Darrah says that he'd prefer not to be called an "Okie" --- but he then allows that maybe sometimes this term is, in fact, permissible.
