File photo

The number of people hospitalized with the flu continues to climb in Oklahoma. The hospitalization rate has now topped 1,000. Officials say 228 more people were sent to the hospital with influenza just last week. That brings the total to 1,033 for this season.

Nine people died last week from the flu. That raises  the death toll since October in Oklahoma to 31.

For the first time, two of the deaths were in the 5-to-17-year-old category. 45 people in the age group have been hospitalized. By far, most of the hospitalizations and deaths have been people over 65-years-old.
