Miami, OK – Okla. authorities seek escaped jail inmate

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) Authorities say an Ottawa County jail inmate escaped after he got out of his handcuffs.

The sheriff's office says 22-year-old Herman Jones was being taken to the jail about 9:40 a.m. Friday after a court appearance when he slipped out of his restraints and ran away.

Jones ran through the city of Miami until he reached a wooded area near the Neosho River.

Law enforcement officers searched for Jones for hours but weren't able to find him. They did discover his red jail jumpsuit. He had a pair of dark-colored running shorts and no shirt on underneath.

Jones was in custody on complaints of feloniously pointing a firearm and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and a revoked driver's license.
