Muskogee Grandmother Charged in 3-year-old's Morphine Death

Muskogee Police

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — The grandmother of a 3-year-old Muskogee boy who died has been charged with second-degree murder after investigators accused her of putting morphine in the toddler's drinking cup.

The Tulsa World reports that 54-year-old Kimberly Morning of Muskogee was charged in connection with the toddler's death on August 21st.

Court records allege Morning crushed a morphine tablet into the boy's cup, knowing that he would ingest the opiate. Investigators don't think the act was done with premeditated design to cause the child's death.

A probable cause affidavit says the Medical Examiner's Office attributed morphine intoxication as the cause of death. It says toxicology levels in the 3-year-old's system were three times the limit an adult could tolerate.

The affidavit says Morning told investigators she had become frustrated with the child.
