Midwest Severe- Governor

Oklahoma City, OK – Gov. Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for 68 Oklahoma counties after tornadoes raked across the state, destroying homes and businesses and killing eight people.

The governor issued the declaration Wednesday and it includes most of the state, which was battered with tornadoes, straight-line winds, damaging hail and flooding.

The executive order authorizes state agencies to make emergency purchases. It also activates a state law prohibiting price gouging goes into effect.

Fallin was planning a helicopter tour Wednesday of some of the hardest hit areas and planned to visit with residents of Chickasha and the nearby community of Friend, where several homes and businesses were destroyed.
