TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A 43-year-old Tulsa man has pleaded guilty to aiming the beam of a laser pointer in the flight path of a Tulsa Police Department helicopter.

Federal prosecutors say Carl Don Floyd pleaded guilty Thursday in Tulsa federal court.

Prosecutors say Floyd admitted aiming a laser pointer three times in February in the flight path of the police helicopter that was flying near his house.

Floyd is due to be sentenced in February and faces up to five years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

In 2012, President Barack Obama signed a law making it a federal crime to knowingly aim the beam of a laser pointer at or in the flight path of an aircraft.
