TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A Tulsa man who admitted aiming a laser pointer at a police helicopter has been sentenced by a federal judge to three years of probation.
The Tulsa World reports that Carl Don Floyd was ordered to serve the first six months of the term in home detention, with allowances to leave for work.
In November, Floyd pleaded guilty on the eve of a second jury trial. As part of an agreement, prosecutors agreed to support probation. Floyd's initial trial in July resulted in a deadlocked jury.
Floyd was arrested after a police helicopter crew reported that a green laser struck the aircraft multiple times while on patrol. One of the crew members said he was struck in both eyes by the laser.
