Tulsa, Okla. – Forty-six-year-old Daniel Paul Hedge, who claims to be HIV positive, is being held in the Tulsa County jail for slinging blood and spitting on emergency workers treating him for serious injuries.
Police responded to a complaint from St. John's Hospital Saturday evening that Hedge refused to cooperate with the effort to treat his injuries.
Police say Hedge told the workers, including EMSA paramedics and a Tulsa Fire Department chief, that he is HIV positive and has hepatitis C.
Hedge is being held on four counts of spreading infectious disease and knowingly engaging to transfer HIV. Bond is set at $50,000.
EMSA employees are undergoing testing for the diseases.
